England's only mountain forest with visitor centre, trails, walks & mountain biking

Location: Pass through Braithwaite village and up Whinlatter Forest (approx. 5 miles from Keswick)

Whinlatter Forest is Englands only true mountain forest and near the road summit is the visitor centre. There is a shop, cafe, information centre, bike shop, adventure trails, mountain bike routes and walks!

'Go Ape' is an obstacle high rope course made about 40 ft up in the trees that had zip lines, rope swings and high wire walks. Go Ape would be described as a tree-top adventure where you climb, traverse and abseil through the forest (harnessed in and under supervision of course!).

Whinlatter Forest is also home to some of the best mountain bike trails in Northern England. There are two defined routes which suit different abilities, a Blue route which is 7.5km of stunning single track with some technical obstacles as well as some painful hills to get you out of the saddle. Up from this, a 19 km Red route with some black route options marked aptly with a skull and cross bones.
