Whinlatter Forest Trails - Altura & Quercus

Keswick and the surrounding northern Lake District has always attracted mountain bikers. There are some excellent shops selling the latest gear and local groups have been formed who meet on a weekly basis.

Most biking trails have been shared with walkers, whether it be round Skiddaw or over High Spy, but recently the Forestry Commission have designed and built two specific mountain bike trails in Whinlatter Forest, the Altura and the Quercus.

The Quercus trail is for intermediate bikers who have reasonable fitness. There are two routes, 3.5km and 7.5km, with gentle berms, rolling jumps and wide gradual climbs.

The Altura trail is for experienced riders with good skills and high levels of fitness. This route is 19km, most of it being challenging single track, and features berms, jumps, rock features, skinnies, cork screws and table tops.
